By A. Jay Hunter
This amplifer is replacing a Kicker zx750 amplifier that was powering a set of Polk MM6501 components. I replaced it because I didn't have space for that large amp in my trunk, and I am only running one pair of speakers up front. This amp is about 1/3 the size of the Kicker. (Sub will be added shortly Polk MM 1040).
All I have to say is WOW!!! I went from 85watts per channel to close to 150-175 watts per channel. The MM6501s are 2.7 ohm so you get a bit more power. The sound is lounder AND cleaner. I don't know if it sounds warmer, but after running all my music through it (Coltrane, Ozzie, Muse, Bethoven, Cocteau Twins, Robbie Robertson, Change) I have to say this amp handled all the music perfectly.
I am not going to get in to the Class D vs Class AB, but I don't see any reason to get a big heavy amp that runs hot over one that's smaller, louder, puts out more power and runs cooler. If there is a difference in the music its too small to tell.
I should also note, while this amp has a LOT of features (High Pass filter, Low pass filter which can be combined to make a band pass filter), I ran the amp full range, and crossed it over with my head unit (JVC KW-NT800HDT)
AWESOME little amp, can't wait to put the remaining 400 watts through to the sub!!!

Just hooked this bad boy up, it replaced a DUAL XPE4700 that I am returning due to distortion at the higher levels and therefore not able to get near full wattage out of decent speakers. I tuned this unit as I did the last and there is a big difference! I am getting every watt out of my speakers and it is able to go higher but my speakers cant handle it. I am running POLK db571 in the rear, (50 watts @4 ohms) and POLK MM571 in the front, (90 watt @2 ohms). I sometimes like my music very loud and this amp will do it and more.
Adjusting is a slight more painful than the last and that is only because the adjustments are not as easily accessed as the last unit but adjustment is a 1 time shot so its not a big deal.
